Cable Detection

Here at Resmar we have a number of tools for Cable Detection including Cable Avoi9dance Tools and Signal Generators by specialist manufaturer C.Scope International Ltd

Protecting people and equipment when excavation work is undertaken is increasingly important in an industry which is subject to significant regulation, and cost pressures. Injuries following the unintentional striking of buried utilities are still too commonplace, which makes the safe collection of accurate data about the position and location of underground cables or gas pipelines essential.

Cable detection tools need to be used when ground is to be broken. This can mean digging the ground by hand or using an excavator, but it can also mean banging tent pegs for a circus, or digging trial pits. Local legislation often states that ground surveying using cable detection tools have to be used even for these, less obvious, circumstances.

CAT (short for Cable Avoidance Tool) and Genny (Signal Generator) are Cable Detection products that have been in use for over thirty years and the latest generation, with improvements over previous models, are simply able to find more buried utilities, faster. The use of CAT and Genny is becoming increasingly important in what is now a highly regulated industry.

A CAT, used in isolation, can detect power and radio signals that are released from or are being induced by buried power cables. However, used in conjunction with a signal generator up to 50% more services can be detected than using the CAT alone. This means that gas and plastic water pipes, as well as ceramic and metal pipes can also be uncovered.

This fact is really important. Unless you are looking solely for underground power cables, detection work should be undertaken with a CAT and Genny combined to get the most valuable information.
